Pricing Guidelines

Every cake is unique and with so many opportunities for variation - size, shape, flavour, ingredients, quantity and complexity of decoration, location of venue, possible stand hire ...... - the only way to obtain an accurate price is to request a quote.  Size definitely matters and there are also individual ingredients that are very expensive but by far the biggest variable to have impact on the price is the complexity of the cake and the time required to produce the decorations.  The cake design process will always take account of budget and if necessary offer alternatives that achieve a similar style or theme at reduced cost.  However, as a guide, some general prices for average sized cakes with simple decoration are quoted below.  To discuss your plans in detail, obtain a price indication or a full quote please contact me for a no obligation, fast and friendly response.

Consultation and Ordering

The Consultation Process

For wedding cakes, the ordering process usually begins with a no-obligation consultation where ideas that fit with the colour scheme, theme and budget of the wedding are discussed and formulated. The best time for the consultation to be scheduled is when the date, location and theme of the wedding have been established and any relevant supporting information including colour samples, photographs of outfits, magazine extracts etc that have already been collected can be brought along.  There will be a large library of books and magazines available to browse through.  The consultation will establish the best size and style of cake for your wedding and also identify any possible restrictions in design (for example some chocolate cakes will not be suitable if it will be displayed for long periods in a marquee in the summer).  The consultation will be followed up with firm ideas for designs that will be presented with complimentary tasting samples. When the design of the cake has been finalised a full quotation document will be prepared and the order becomes confirmed on acceptance of the quotation and payment of a 50% deposit.

For celebration cakes other than weddings a full consultation is not usually necessary and all essential details can be discussed by telephone or e-mail.  A quotation document will be prepared and the order becomes confirmed on acceptance of the quotation and payment of a 50% deposit.

Complimentary tasting samples are not provided for celebration cakes.

Notice and Availability

At least three - ideally six - months notice is usually required for wedding cakes although the summer period in particular is very busy and earlier booking is strongly recommended.  Short notice orders may be possible subject to availability so please do ask.  Preliminary bookings to ‘save the date’ will be accepted when accompanied by an initial, non-refundable deposit of £50.

For other celebration cakes, at least two weeks notice is generally essential although short notice orders will be accommodated whenever possible.

Please note that to maintain a high standard of workmanship only a limited number of orders will be accepted at any one time therefore all orders will only be accepted subject to availability. 

Collection and Delivery

Delivery and assembly of wedding cakes at your chosen venue will be provided free of charge within a 15 mile radius of Bristol and Bath.  Subject to availability, it may be possible to deliver cakes further afield but this will incur an additional delivery charge to cover mileage which will be included within the final quotation. 

Subject to the design, cakes may also be collected from my kitchen in South Glos which is within easy reach of the M4, M5 and M32 motorways.  All cakes will be provided in sturdy boxes and with full instructions for assembly at the venue.  Collections can only be scheduled by prior appointment.

Celebration cakes are generally only available for collection by prior arrangement.  However, delivery may be possible subject to availability but will incur an additional cost depending on the mileage:

Delivery within a 5 mile radius of postcode region BS16 : £5.00

Delivery within a 10 mile radius of postcode region BS16: £10.00.

Delivery further afield may also be possible - please request a quote.

Payment Terms and Conditions

Weddings

For weddings dates that are more than six months into the future, a deposit of £50 will guarantee availability on your chosen date before the details for the cake have been finalised.

A cake order becomes confirmed when the quotation document has been signed and a non-refundable deposit of 50% has been paid.  The balance of payment is due 3 weeks prior to the wedding date.  A separate cheque (or cash) to cover any deposit required for stand hire must be included with the final payment.  The cheque/cash will be fully refunded when the stand has been returned undamaged and on-time.

Every effort will be made to accommodate changes to the cake design up to two weeks ahead of the wedding although this cannot be guaranteed and may incur an extra charge to cover additional complexity of design, time and materials.

A minimum of fourteen days written notice is required to cancel a cake and any monies paid in excess of the deposit and all expenses incurred to that point will be refunded.  For cancellations within 14 days of the delivery date the full amount will be due whether or not delivery is taken.

In highly exceptional circumstances, Specialiced reserves the right to cancel a cake order at any time.  In this situation no charges will be made, all money paid will be fully refunded but no compensation will be payable.

Other Celebrations

For other celebration cakes the balance of payment must be made on collection or delivery of the cake.  Once an order has been confirmed, changes to the design will not be possible unless requested more than two weeks ahead of the delivery date.  No changes can be guaranteed and may incur an extra charge to cover additional complexity of design, time and materials.
